TANDEM SURFERS

The idea for the surfers came from my personal frustration wit surfing.

I have decided to deal wit the energy creatively by creating a commentary on the whole surfing culture.

Inspiration from this photograph is essential . A famous time when everything was young and spoil. A melancholia of the past. Is it any different than what we experience today?

I used photoshop to construct a skeleton of the characters. In my vision i see a hodgepodge of animals catching a long tsunami wave. Nibiru is near  

After i sit on the drawing table and assemble the composition by hand. Though i could do this digitally i much rather do it by hand that way i have hard core evidence of the process and synthesis.

The next step was to create some contrast sketches using a printmaking technique call monoprinting. It is verymuch like finger painting in which you wipe the ink away from the areas that are white. It works miracles with contrast 

This is the plate completely wiped and ready for printing. Yikes a few hours of very intricate finger painting.

The print always comes out backwards. Composition is important when printing and for instance mistakes can occur if not carefully. For example the mountain in the background "dimondhead" should be facing the north side not the east side . This happen because the image gets flipped when printed.

Now time to perfect and define the characters , who stays and who goes.
